Josh uses Old Holland brands, but students may use whatever is affordable.

PIGMENTS  IN ORDER OF THEIR PLACEMENT (on the pallet)

3. Venetian Red
4. Cadmium Yellow Deep
5. Cadmium Yellow Light
6. Cadmium Red Light
7. Alizarin Crimson OR Rose Madder (Windsor & Newton)
8. Ultramarine Blue Deep
9. (Optional: Cobalt Blue)
10. (Optional: Manganese Blue)
11. Burnt Umber
12. Raw Umber (Windsor & Newton)
13. Ivory Black
14. Cremnitz White or flake White

MEDIUM (only ONE)

3. 1/3 Damar Varnish, 1/3 Stand Oil, 1/3 100% pure spirits gum Turpentine (mix together) OR:
4. Cold Pressed Linseed Oil Medium (medium drying time) or:
5. Copal Medium

CANVAS or Panels

2-3 primed and toned canvas (Recommended: Linen, fine weaves Double primed);                                                 
various sizes:  9" x 12",  16"x20"  (or 18"x24")

 Optional:
Gessoed Masonite. Various sizes.
Inner Glow Painting Panels (1-877-430-3639)
Clay panels.

Tone the Canvas with Ultra. M. Blue mix with Burnt Umber and your painting Medium. Light ton to medium value. Use a paper towel or lint free rugs. (this will be demonstrated in class as well).
Suggestions:
For a smoother surface, add a thin coat of your lead white to the canvas or panel.
(Use a pallet knife, wipe access with a rug) Allow 2-3 weeks to dry, sand canvas, then tone.

BRUSHES
Filberts, Bristle # 3, 5, 7, and up.
The best brushes have interlocked, chunking bristles. Use one of the following Companies (in order of preference):

Silver Grand Prix 1003 filbert
Isabey 6098 Filbert, or 6088 filbert
Pearl Paint #1200 Filbert
Strathmore Superior.                                                                                                                       
Grumbacher Degas series # 4229

PALLET
Plexiglas Wood or Glass pallet.
For Plexiglas or Glass: use gray cardboard or any other tone backing.
White Pallets are not Recommended, they are difficult for judging values when mixing.
Optional: Paper wax Pallets for mixing your medium with your pigments
Prior to the painting session.

OTHER
1/ 2" Hake brush for varnishing. (optional)
Pallet Knife
Paper towels or painting rugs
Small hand held minor (optional)
Simple calipers (optional)
Ivory soap or brash cleaning soap.

18"x24" pad or 3 to 5 individual sheets of Strathmore 500 series charcoal 60-128 (tan) 25"x19"
2 to 6 pencils: Conte' sanguine of Paris pencil # 610 (one white and one black, rest are sanguine). or conte' sanguine chalk
4 clips
A kneaded rubber eraser
A utility knife or blades, and sand paper (#200) for sharpening
OPTIONAL: 0.5 mm mechanical pencil with AB sanguine leads
